On this page you will find all the information for the cantenna exercise.
Instructions on the cantenna exercise can be found here.
For the cantenna presentations, each group will hold a 5 minutes (!) presentation about its cantenna work.
During the presentation, each group is asked to briefly explain:
The cantenna presentations will take place during the last lecture of the security of wireless network course.
The presentations will take place in the usual lecture room. We will provide the necessary equipments (computer + beamer).
In order to reduce the time needed to switch between different presentations, the deadline to send us your presentations (reardonj@inf.ethz.ch) will be before the presentation (date to be announced).
For the cantenna presentation, please, bring your cantenna, the Orinoco card, and the pigtail cable. At the end of the lecture, we will collect the Orinoco cards and the pigtail cables. We will not collect the N-connectors. So, there is not need to remove them from your cantennas.
We have some tools to help you building your cantenna in our lab room (IFW A-26), but no space to actually work on it.
As a workspace, there is a workshop at the HG (called "freizeitwerkstatt") that you can freely access to build your cantenna. Additionally, you should find there different tools as well.
For infos check this link.
If you want to access and use the freizeitwerkstatt, please, get in contact with the person in charge by yourself (contact details on the website).
The pc cards that you can borrow from us are the ORiNOCO 11 b/g PC Card Gold (8470-WD). Here you can find the data sheet.
If you would like to buy one of those, here one possible seller.
If you would like to buy another brand/model, just compare the respective data sheets. The main characteristic of our ORiNOCO pc card is that they have a connector for an external antenna (beside being a 802.11b/g wireless card, of course).
The N-connectors that you can borrow from us are the ANF-4000 from Hyperlink. The connectors are N-Female.
Here you can find additional information as well as order them.
The pigtail cables that you can borrow from us are the CA-MCNMDN19 from Hyperlink. The cable are MC-Card to N-Male, White Pigtail 19" 100-Series.
Here you can find additional information as well as order them.
In case your pc card is not an ORiNOCO 11 b/g PC Card Gold (8470-WD), here you can check which kind of connector you card has (the ORiNOCO 11 b/g PC Card Gold (8470-WD) has a MC-Card connector), and then find a proper pigtail cable (in our case, a MC-Card to N-Male cable).
